Beer: a beginners guide

You are on your way to experience the collegiate life and have no clue about beer. Here is our novice’s guide to sounding in the know, without months of praying to the porcelain gods!

There are two main types of Beer: Ale and Lager. A grouping of “hybrid” beers will be left out of this discussion, but suffice it to say they are the flavored beers that have herbs, spices and fruit infusions.

1. Lager is the more popular type for the college student as it typically costs less and has the billion dollar branding behind it. The experts say lager is clean and refreshing and typically served at colder temperatures.

2. Ale on the other hand, is more strongly flavored, and served at a warmer temperature. Ale typically has a higher alcohol level. Some types of ale are: amber ale,

pale ale, porters, stout, american wheat, and hefeweizen.

For the novice, take note these will be the more expensive brands.

Keep in mind, if you are not drinking for the taste, but merely to get wasted, go for the cheap stuff.
