How many parents travel the country following their child’s sports team? It does not seem to matter:

  • Women’s sports team/Men’s sports team
  • Division I team/Division II team/Division III team
  • Football team/ swim team/fencing team/….

Parents follow these athletic teams; it is a fact. We travel by car, plane and train. We cheer, support, bake, and freeze watching games.

Personal Experience

Last spring I was following the Georgetown Women’s Lacrosse Team to University of Louisville. Early Sunday morning , and who knew that the town of Louisville does not open until noon? I was starving and in no mood for the fast food routine. I happened upon the Santa Fe Grill. What a treat to find this authentic Mexican food emporium!

SANTA MONICA, CA - JULY 11: Pico de Gallo sauce is served in a Mexican restaurant on July 11, 2008 in Santa Monica, California. In the largest foodborne outbreak of the past decade, officials have been unable to find the source of the Salmonella food poisoning that has sickened more than 1000 people and killed two across the nation. At first, tomatoes were suspected and pulled from store shelves and menus. Now cilantro and certain types of hot peppers including raw jalapenos and fresh Serrano peppers are under investigation. Tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos, and Serrano are common ingredients in Mexican salsa. Commonly, the condition is signaled by heavy diarrhea lasting several days. Salmonella has hit 41 states so far and officials believe that for every confirmed case, 30 to 40 possible cases go undiagnosed or unreported.

Fresh ingredients, and friendly waitstaff made my day! Of course winning the game helped my mood as well. But there is nothing worse than being on the road, and wandering around looking for some local gem to satisfy a craving. Don’t let this happen to you! I was lucky and wandered into a great spot. Know before you go!
