Campus Diversity/Restaurant Scene
How to feel more at home, when you are away from home
Towson students:
- Do you miss home?
- Are you a stranger in a strange land?
I have been spending time regularly on this campus and it certainly has the “feel” of a diverse campus.
With 30% minorities, out of a student population of just under 20,000 that converts to a great need for restaurants that cater to all ethnic groupings so they can achieve that sense of home, when they are far away.
For all those who are longing for that feeling of comfort that only foods from your ethnic background will satisfy, I offer the following:
Chinese food
Jumbo Seafood
48 E Sudbrook lane
(410) 602-1441
Pro: good food, homey feeling
Con: located in tacky strip mall in suburbs
Olive & Sesame;
2 W Pennsylvania Ave.
(410) 494-4944
Pro: Close to campus, food is great.
Con: Trendy feel, nothing like home
Middle Eastern food
Helmond
806 N. Charles Street
410 752-0311
Pro: Owner is brother of Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan. Great food. Great area of downtown, near Mt. Vernon.
Con: Far from campus
Lebanese Taverna
719 S. President Street
410 244-5533
Pro: Hip downtown local
Con: Pricey and nothing feels like home
Eastern European dining:
Neopol
529 E Belvedere Avenue
Belvedere Square
410 433-7700
Pro: Great food, great location, close to campus.
Con: Limited hours, in market area
Greek food:
Acropolis Restaurant
4718 Eastern Ave
410 675-3384
Pro: Owners are the real deal, authentic Greek cooking
Con: Far from campus
Ikaros Restaurant
4805 Eastern Ave
410 633-3750
Pro: Authentic Greek, fresh food
Con: Far from campus
So don’t be afraid to venture away from your safe campus! Get out and find the comfort food that will take you home again.
